Local application of Diltigesic ORGANOGEL causes inhibition of extracellular calcium influx across the smooth muscle cell membranes present on the application site (anus). This reduced intracellular calcium concentrations will increase muscle relaxation and reduces pressure and increases blood flow to the area to allow healing to occur.
